JEAN-LOUIS GUILLOU

Jean-Louis is an expert in implementing high engagement work environments. His passion and skill extracting peak performance is the common denominator underpinning a career ranging from professional sports, investment banking and running a $1 billion enterprise in Asia.

Managing Cargill’s 10,000-employee Indonesian operations and heading grains/oilseed business development throughout Southeast Asia, Jean-Louis focused extensively on implementing human resource initiatives to engage and energize a multi-cultural workforce, fostering inter-business collaboration and innovation. He led Cargill’s largest acquisition in Asia (PT Sorini for $300 million), orchestrated a multi-million dollar turn-around of a loss-making coconut crushing operation, served as an informal advisor to the US Ambassador and was the only foreign CEO on a Presidential trade and agriculture policy advisory council.

At UBS in Europe he built leading US equity franchises in France and among UK hedge funds. He also dedicated time to recruiting; identifying traits, characteristics and values in successful candidates. He earned recognition for mentoring young talent.

Jean-Louis currently works with new businesses, advising them on securing capital and establishing geographic footholds. This effort spans industries as diverse as agribusiness, FinTech and Asian anti-aging clinics.  He is an active member of YPO, has served as communications officer in the Pan Asia chapter and as moderator for Pan Indonesia and Pan Asia forums.

Before embarking on his business career, Jean-Louis was a professional tennis player and then coach, guiding teams to championships and individual players to top global rankings.

Jean-Louis holds an MBA from Thunderbird and BA from University of Minnesota.  Fluent in English and French, conversational in Spanish and Bahasa (Indonesia) he remains dedicated to athletics and is a competitive ironman triathlete.

“Huge thank you for an amazing launch of Lean In. By all accounts, you rocked the house. We have a growing, engaged community, lots of people using our education and submitting stories, and this is just the beginning. So very grateful for all you do.”
